On Saturday we took the kids to the pumpkin patch. The same one that Raia went to with her class earlier in the month. I got the opening time wrong, and we got there too early, so we back-tracked to a nearby WalMart and got hashbrowns and hot chocolate from McDonalds. When we got back the hay ride was just getting ready to leave, so Patrick, Raia, and me hopped on. George wasn't interested in going, and surprisingly, niether was Errol.
They both headed straight for the pumpkin patch.
Raia, Patrick and I had a bumpy ride around the farm, then were dropped off at the pumpkin patch. The kids had a blast picking out their pumpkins. Errol would have brought home the whole patch if we'd let him. He picked out a white pumpkin and an orange bumpy one that we'll probably end up using just for decoration (it's too flat to carve), and Raia picked out another orange one, and a little baby white one for Patrick. George and I found one large, perfect-for-carving pumpkin. The owner let us put our pumpkins in the back of his truck to be taken to the scale to be weighed and priced. All 5 pumpkins came to $17. Not too bad, especially since the hay ride was free. There was also a scarecrow there that I took a the kids' picture with. We all had to take our shoes off to drive home because the patch was SO muddy, our shoes were all caked in mud. Fun fun.
When we got home we had lunch, then George ran by the hospital to find out when the Halloween party for the employee's kids started. It was from 1-4pm, so we ended up being ready and there just after 1pm, which was perfect because there were hardly any lines for the games and activities. Raia got her face painted (orange dinosaur with pink spots) and both kids got a big balloon hat. Raia also played her very first game of Bingo. It was pretty informal, where you just kept playing until you got a "bingo", and when you did they had a little animatronic halloween cat that sang and danced, and then the "winner" got to pick a prize. Raia called out "Bingo!" pretty much every time she got to fill in a square, but eventually really *did* get a Bingo, and she picked out a yellow knit scarf to take home (which she wore to church on Sunday. )
When we got home the kids ate their candy and we had a lazy afternoon, then ordered Chinese take-out for dinner. It wasn't the best day for being on a diet at our house. ;)
