Back in the water.

After a week of not working out, not knowing what to do for exercise while my ankle healed, a friend of mine pointed out what should have been obvious to me. Swimming. I seriously smacked myself in the forehead when she mentioned it, because swimming is only like my most favoritest sport ever! (Chya!) I was on my city and high school swim teams, and was a lifeguard during my first two post-high school summers. I LOVE to swim! So Monday morning I hit the pool at the YMCA.

I can't say it was completely painless. Not being able to wear my ankle brace to and from the pool was a bit of a strain (and wasn't one I repeated the rest of the week) and at first I tried swimming normally, but eventually grabbed a pull bouy so I could swim with just my arms while my legs floated along behind me. That made things feel much better, and I got a pretty good arm workout!

Tuesday and Wednesday were the same. Thursday George had to go into work early, so no gym that day, and today I decided to use the weight room instead and tried out 10 minutes on the elliptical at the very end, and it actually felt fine! I still get an occasional flare up, but it doesn't hurt as often or as much as it did this time last week. Hopefully things are on the mend!

But can I just say, if you hate swim suit shopping, try shopping for a racing suit! There is NO camoflauge to those things what.so.ever.

  1. Oh Jena, I am so sorry you have Tendonitis! I have had it in my left wrist for 10 years and it SUCKS. Mine seems to be a lot worse since we moved to TN and now TX...the humidity is just not a friend to my poor inflamed tendons. My best advice, just grit your teeth and do what you can. It sounds like you are not letting it get you down, which is great. At least your doctor is a fan of decent painkillers, mine are always like, "Well have you tried Motrin?" Ya think??!!

  2. Oh crud, is this one of those things that's going to follow me from now on??

I've actually stopped taking the pain-meds the Dr. perscribed me and started using my left over Ibuprofen horse pills from when I had Patrick. The other stuff was making me super drowsy. I'm almost out of the horse pills though, so I may have to make an appointment with my regular Dr. to see about getting a refill.
